Google has announced today that they are going to roll out an update for their Mobile Algorithm in May. The algo was originally launched on April 21st, 2015 and it gave a ranking boost for mobile-friendly websites when the search is coming from a mobile device.
This new update is aimed at mobile-friendly sites and will give an additional boost compared to sites that are not mobile-friendly.
Klemen Kloboves started the blog post by writing that searchers should get the best results regardless of the device they are using. To me that means that non mobile-friendly websites will still show up for a lot of queries where they are among the best results.
Klemen goes on saying that if your website is already mobile-friendly, this update won’t impact you. I would add that if non-mobile-friendly sites fall in rankings, then your mobile-friendly ones will see better rankings.
And remember, the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal — so even if a page with high quality content is not mobile-friendly, it could still rank well if it has great, relevant content. – Klemen Kloboves
